I was listening to the game when the Royals started to score on Buchholz. I
was fairly sure he was going to pull a Buchholz and spit the bit when the
going got tough but he held on. Maybe he's turning that corner of mental
toughness.

To return to a previous discussion about the Analyst Called Jim Ed Rice.

Here's yet another example of what drives me bats about him. NESN has a new
feature, Hit or Miss, a quickfire Q&A of the two analysts on various topics.
The analysts must give a quick, yes or no answer.

One of the questions--which had been teased at least twice during the post
game--was "Should Nomar make it to the HOF?"

The answer obviously is no. But here's Rice's reply:
I don't know. Getting into the HOF is all about the numbers and I'd have to
look at Nomar's numbers.

Honestly? Mr. Rice are you lazy or chickenshit? Are you that opposed to
doing the legwork to be effective in the job for which you're paid? You
couldn't even access a laptop during the commercial break to look up Nomar's
record or ask Eck, who had memorized them and employed them in his answer.

Or do you just not want to piss of Nomie, who, btw, is no a commentator
himself and, from what I hear, doing a better job than you.

Makes me wonder about Jim Rice the player. Was he a hard worker back then?
Or did he just get by on his considerable and wonderful talent? Did he fall
off the cliff so quickly because he just didn't do the work to adjust to his
declining skills?

I know this is a bit of a rant, but what the hell.
