I remember the Glenn Ordway saying of Steve Lyons, "He has become a *
broadcaster*."  I took it to mean that Big O was saying that Lyons had
learned the profession and was doing well at it.

Jim Rice is no broadcaster.  He's a big name who creates nostalgia for a
time when the Red Sox did ... well ... er ... much worse than they do today.
