You can find Web sites, gambling sites, that can forecast how a certain NBA
referee will impact a game. Whether he tends to favor the home team, the
visitors or abide by some other external precious (not suggesting nefarious
ones, just being vague.) It's open theorized by sports call types and even
analysts that the NBA assigns certain refs to certain games to improve the
chances of one team at the expense of the other.

THAT, in my mind, is a real problem that can undermine a sport. Umpiring,
yeah, it's imprecise and sometimes aggravating, as it's always been, but it
seems to be fair.
