Different goals? Ownership is primarily concerned with filling seats and
revenue - by-products of winning but also generated by
big personalities. Baseball Ops is concerned with winning now AND in the future
and with having a say in how the team performs
on a daily basis.

This was an excellent article.  So much of the analysis and writing about the
managerial process started and ended with "Luchino is the Dick Cheney" of the
Red Sox.  This was a thoughtful discussion of how the team made an important
business decision.

It did strike me that "baseball operations" and "ownership" were broken into
camps who required dialog and compromise to come to a decision.  I wonder what
makes that happen?

Interesting take on the manager's search. I'm sure Dan Shaughnessy won't buy it.
