I don't see how these are the least bit incompatible.  

A big personality who loses is worthless.
Anyone who wins will deliver more cash than a loser.

So it seems they are the same.

I'm not sure what you mean by baseball operations wanting to "have a say on how 
the team performs on a daily basis."   I literally don't understand the 
sentence.
