All,
Need some help with a problem I am having with a xenia species I have. It is
the only soft coral I have in my tank, because it is absolutely beautiful
coral. Well, about year ago, the rock that the colony (about 5 stocks) was
on fell at night and crushed (suffocated) my xenia. Well, I thought all was
lost after it all died, so I moved the rock it was attached to. Well, about
4 months later, a little tiny piece of this xenia that I used to have
started to grow back. Amazingly within about 7 months, it had grown out to
about 4 stocks. Unfortunately, they were all suffocating my acropora, so I
put a rock by them and once they grew over to the new rock, I moved them
down in the tank into their own spot. That was about 3 months ago. Quickly,
they grew into a colony of about 8-10 stocks. Everything appeared to be
great.
Now, after that extensive paragraph, here is my problem. It is dying. Over
the weekend, I have lost all but 3 stocks of it. It is just rotting away.
The stocks left seem to be happy, still (don't know about now though, as
this was of last night before the lights went off) and are pulsing like
crazy. My questions are these....
Does anyone know of any sites that talk about xenia crashing, reasons for
it, how to prevent it etc etc and do any of you have any suggestions?
Tank is as follows:
Light - 1-175 w 10k MH and 4 VHO Actinic
Temp 79-80 at all times
Alk - 4.5 meq
PH - 8.1
Calcium - 420-450 ppm
Ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, phosphate - Immeasurable
All tests performed with Salifert kits
Xenia is not touching any other corals.
Thoughts or suggestions???
TIA Everyone....
Shane C.
