70 pounds would be good. And I'd say no more then 1/2 inch or an inch. I dont
like deep sand beds either. I moved my rocks.. and took a pipette, and sucked
up some sand from the very bottom of the tank.. Smelled like rotten eggs. Not
worth the risk to me.
