Things than I do when a fish get bad, I learn this from a book and it really
work so far. I had a fish tanks for 8 years....

First change 10 to 20 % in your acuarium water, that will help if your
parameters are bad, Then:

Hospital tank

Place some water from your acuarium, add some thing for the fish to hide,
don't use a botton media, no power head, no filtration, no light, just some
air stone, a heater of course. Then add the medicine, paraguard is the best
I used, it has formaldeid and malaquite gree, ( I do not know if the
spelling is right in english). then place the fish, and cover the tank with
a white sheet.

You may be saying than i am crazy, let me explein you.
You dont need a botton media cause you will only used for a short time, and
if you place some it could react with the med and you'll loose it.
There is not need for lights and they can strees the fish, the sheet is for
preventing the fish to strees when you or some one pass by, the reason for
them to be white is to let some light pass.

Then every day change a 10% water, add 10% of medicine and feed him if
possible with live food if not, if not, no problem.

To help this you can make a fresh water bath avery day for 3 days, place
some fresh water without clorine , add some bicarbonate to raise the PH to
8.3 and raise the temp. to the same of the tank, then place the fish in
there for about 3-5 minutes and them take him back to the tank(hospital).
This will kill the parasites by a osmolar diference. I dont really know how
to explain it to you in english, sorry I am a spanish speeker.

I don't use cupper cause is toxic if you use to much is not as fast as the
paraguard and you'll need a cupper test to keep it in 0.2.
Whe I used it, it didn't work as well as the other stuff.

If you by a cleaner let me tell you that they generally never it this
parasites off the body of a sik fish. They could help to prevent this.

If you dont find what cause this look for the other fish in the tank if it
is streesing him that could be the reason.

Hope this will help you...

The fish with the spots is a Clown Trigger (Balistoides niger).
There is a large yellow tang in the same tank who seems to be fine.
   Tank stats are
Nitrate 0
Sal 1.020
temp 78.1
PH 8.2
Alk 1.7
Water source is a SpectraPure RODI & Skimmer is ETS Reef Devil II on a 75
gal
About the time the trigger got this problem I had accidently let the temp
drop to about 70. He seems to slowly be getting better. I am not sure if I
should leave him alone & see what happens or I have a tank I have put
together for a hospital with everything I (think) it needs except for no bio
type filter to cycle the water.
This is a 18 gal tank with heater, substrate, powerhead, & light.
TIA
Galvin

Why don't you try to set up a hospital tank, just water, add some Paraguard
from seachem and live it there for a week, this has worked for my. Do not
add any medicacion to your acuarium, 99 % of the diseses are cause a water
bad quality, check it.
