Hi David,
Not wanting to be an alarmist but a friend of mine has a 10ft x 4ft x 4ft
reef and he got a few of those anenomes on his live rock, a few years down
the line and he had thousands, they got on everything, killing big
turbinarias, acroporas and making any coral they got near start to recede!!
The only thing they couldn't harm was a Galaxea Sp!!
My friend got so fed up trying to rid the tank of them he has taken it down
forever (other factors made this happen as well). He gave another friend of
mine loads of acropora cuttings and some live rock. Some of it had these
little anenomes on so he put it in the dark to kill them, the following
morning he looked in horror as he saw the anenomes had evacuated the hidden
rock and were all over his tank!! We spent the whole evening picking them
off the rocks!! And I thought he'd invited me over for dinner with his
family for a nice evening, should have known about the hidden motive!!
I would keep a close eye on it and if you see more springing up quickly then
then watch out or they might be the only invert in your tank after a while!!
A description of them can be found in Fosser & Nilsons - A Modern Coral Reef
Aquarium Vol 2, it suggests that they are not a welcome addition to your
tank...
Hope this helps
Jules
