the thing you must remember when choosing tangs is, look at the mouth and body shape, if they look similar or have same types of mouths then that means they will be competing for food, and WILL fight.
I combine totally different body shapes, and feeding types.
I have a yellow, kole, convict, and regal blue all in a 120. but they all feed in different areas of the tank and on different types of algae.

         I tried a Yellow with a Desjardini . . . It didn't work out very
well.  They were both aproximately the same size (the Yellow possibly a
little larger) and they were at each other constantly with the scalpels.

I have never seen mine eat Valonia.  I have had very little in my
tank, but I'm not sure if that is because it isn't growing, or if the
Desjardini is eating it.  I did have a couple of Valonia balloons a couple
of months ago, out of reach of the Desjardini even if he wanted it, so I
added an emerald crab.  I never saw the crab eat the Valonia either, but it
was gone within a week or so.
By the way, I absolutely love my Zebrasoma desjardinii.  I've
wanted one ever since I saw a plate sized adult at the New Jersey Aquarium.
