Itmar,
Based on this, how do you best decide on a pump for the skimmer? Should it
be that Jose should look for a pump that has a better pressure rating than
the rio or should he focus on GPH because at a higher GPH, the pump is going
to have a better pressure rating??

TIA,
Shane C.

        Shane :
The rio pump has great output, but low pressure to run a Berlim's
venturi.If
the mag 7 have the same output, the pressure is higher than a Rio .
To run venturis how many GPH isn't so important than the pressure.
        Regards
        Itamar

Quite honestly, I don't know what the rating of those compared to
the Rio
is. I would compare the GPH of the rio to that of the mags, then get
a mag
that is 2or 3 sizes up from that of the rio. Another words, if the
Rio pumps
1000 GPH and the Mag 7 pumps 1000 GPH, go with the mag 9. Either
that, or
take the max flow rating on the skimmer (out of the owners manual)
and then
get a pump that pumps a lot more than that, then put the ball valve
on it
and you can then adjust according. Sorry I cant help more, but I run
my
berlin skimmer off of my Iwaki 700 rlt pump, and I have no idea
exactly how
many GPH I have running through the skimmer. I only know it is a lot
more
than the rio I had was pumping.

        Thanks Shane !
do you think the correct size pump is a Mag 7 or 9?

        thanks !

It may also be the pump. The mags are crap, and it very well could
        be
pushing less water and air than when it was new. You may consider
        trying a
nice mag pump or something like that. My recommendation, if you go
        that
route, would be to oversize the pump. Get one larger than
        recommended. You
can then put a ball valve on it and turn it down a bit if you find
        it is
        pushing too much water.

        Just a thought....

Hi reefman, have confidence in the berlin.Skimming depends
        alot on
water condition and most of all on bio-load.If your tank has only 4
        fish,you
did not mention what else, but it may just be that there is nothing
        to
skim..What I like about berlin is that they don't collect only
        water.Mine
can go 5-7 days without collecting, then all of a sudden it starts
skimming. The bubbles are really microscopic so you need shit in the
        water
        for them to start collecting.
                Be patient.
On the other hand if you are not collecting and not
        producing any
bubbles in the tube then you have a problem.
It may just be your tank is cristal clean and does not need
        to be
        skimmed..

                        Hi !!
I have a Red Sea Berlin Classic skimmer with a RIO
        2500
        pump.
I have almost 4-5 months that I dont get junk on it.
        I think
is not enough. My tank is a 42 gallons tank with 4 fishes.

Can anybody recomend me a better skimmer? I am
        looking for a
        Hang On Tank model.

                        Thank you in advance...
