Marco,
It is not normal for it to have white spots. Open brain corals do have
mouths on teh inner surface of the coral, and it is possible that could have
been what you saw. Personally, I think open brain corals are very hardy
animals, and if you got it right away and got it into the right environment,
you should be just fine. You should begin feeding it immediatly, like the
same night you bring it home, or no later than the next night. Feed it once
a day, or every other day for a couple of weeks and it will heal up quickly.
Once it has healed up and is doing better, you can cut your feedings back to
one or two times a week.
The reason you see these corals dying, and I am assuming most of these times
have been in the LFS, is because they dont take care of them right. That is
what pisses me off about most LFS's. I understand it is time consuming and
expensive to take care of corals in a store, but if they are not willing to
do so, they shouldnt carry them.
Anyways, I say go pick him up, get him in the tank and feed him. He should
be fine. Remember, these guys like your alk to be up, so make sure and keep
an eye on that, and feed him as much as he will eat!!
