It is up to you, its too bad that one is dying. Maybe you could get the store to work you a good deal on that one, and then see if you can save it. I had one that was in really bad shape, and with feedings, he came back no problem.
You will want to feed him large foods, like krill, mysis shrimp, formula foods etc. Liquid invert foods are not what he needs. You will not need to shut down your skimmer when you feed him. You will however want to make sure that your fish do not steal his food. That is one thing I hate about fish in my reef tank, is that they steal the food from my corals. I hate that. I have to guard my LPS corals after I feed and continuously scare the fish away from them or they eat the corals food. Yea, start adding the alk buffer. You have an alk test kit right? Test, then add the recommended amount, then test in 24 hrs. Keep doing that until your alk gets to around 4 meqs. It is important for stony corals to have a decent alkalinity. Finally, how deep is you tank, top to bottom? You may be fine putting him lower in the tank. You have 160 watts of light, and at the top of the reef, that may be a bit more than he needs. Maybe start him lower and move him up if you need to. Not only that, but if you are feeding him, he will not need as much light to create energy, so he will do okay without a ton of light as long as you are feeding him.
