All good relevant questions. The reef was established about 6
years ago. I bought it and transported it 2 hours by interstate (in a 12 foot
uhaul) several months ago keeping everything we could think of exactly the
same - even transferred the original water. Amazingly we didn't lose a single
animal. I've had it going on 4 months and to date almost everything has gone
like clockwork. I mixed the iodine in water taken from the display tank, so
there was no difference there. The anemone is fairly recent in my tank, but
watched him for 2 weeks in the store tank first. He set up in my tank
remarkably well and the maroon clown immediately set up housekeeping within
it's tenticles. It wasn't a small or weak anemone - probably 3.5 to 4 inches
across and shrunk very little if at all during the over night periods (like my
plate coral tends to do.) Still kinda at a
loss. Thanks, Larry

did you add
any new saltwater? if so perhaps you didnt have sal exact or maybe the salt
wasnt mixed completely. also I have
noticed when the barometer drops or rises sharply my anenomie will contract
and look awful. give it a few days to see what happens. btw how long have you had the anenomie and how long has
tank been setup? hth dave

- Subject: Kent Iodine
- Hi all,
- I need
some input. I just started adding Kent Iodine to my 125 gal reef tank last
night on the advice of my LFS guy. I added it at one-half the recommended
dose and diluted the drops in twice the amount of water recommended
before putting it in the sump (near the pump to the tank). Today the sole
anemone that's in the tank looks horrid. It is (or was) a bubble-tip with
a beautiful maroon clown as a tenant. now it's completely shriveled up
right down to the "foot" and looks like mush. I called the LFS who had the
guy call me from his home (his day off) and from what he says, he thinks
it's already beyond hope. I'm not concerned about him replacing it (which
he will do) as I am about the poor critter's death. He (LFS guy) says he
SOAKS the incoming corals AND anemones in a much stronger solution of
iodine when they arrive at the store to kill off any parasites, so he's
completely baffled. I'd already told him about this list (and bragged on
it's sage advice), so he encouraged me to float the question here (no
pun). The fish and corals look unaffected. the water chemistry/temp/sg
hasn't changed (all good). The only possible other variable is that 24
hours before adding the iodine I added and started a 30 gallon refugium.
That just has live rock and a small handful of culerpa in it (and a coupla
hermit crabs). There was no noticeable change to the anemone for the 24
hours after the refugium was started - it looked fine, when I checked
everything the next day.
- Any help????
- TIA,
- Larry
