Hi all,
I need
some input. I just started adding Kent Iodine to my 125 gal reef tank
last night on the advice of my LFS guy. I added it at one-half the
recommended dose and diluted the drops in twice the amount of water
recommended before putting it in the sump (near the pump to the tank).
Today the sole anemone that's in the tank looks horrid. It is (or was) a
bubble-tip with a beautiful maroon clown as a tenant. now it's completely
shriveled up right down to the "foot" and looks like mush. I
called the LFS who had the guy call me from his home (his day off) and
from what he says, he thinks it's already beyond hope. I'm not concerned
about him replacing it (which he will do) as I am about the poor
critter's death. He (LFS guy) says he SOAKS the incoming corals AND
anemones in a much stronger solution of iodine when they arrive at the
store to kill off any parasites, so he's completely baffled. I'd already
told him about this list (and bragged on it's sage advice), so he
encouraged me to float the question here (no pun). The fish and corals
look unaffected. the water chemistry/temp/sg hasn't changed (all good).
The only possible other variable is that 24 hours before adding the
iodine I added and started a 30 gallon refugium. That just has live rock
and a small handful of culerpa in it (and a coupla hermit crabs). There
was no noticeable change to the anemone for the 24 hours after the
refugium was started - it looked fine, when I checked everything the next
day.
Any help????
TIA,
Larry
