Title: RE: Air Pump for a DIY CC skimmer
I tried to use a venturi valve on my skimmer initially and ended up wasting some money.  I bought 2 venturi valves and tried to hook up a rio 2500 to 1 and a mag 5 to the other.  It wasn't very effiecent and I ended up buying some diffusers and the tetra luft pump.  I was very reluctant to go away from the venturi skimmer initially because i didn't want the hassel of changing air diffusers all the time.  Now I would say that there is no way I would go back to venturi.  I am currently considering starting a nano reef tank in my soon to be born baby's room and I am trying to work out a design to build a air diffuser skimmer that can be hidden easily.  I am not even considering a venturi skimmer.

I would recommend you to buy a big powerhead and adapt it  to the ps installing a venturi valve. Ive seen many people doing it and it works great, just like in any power head "powered" ps.
By the way i dont know how does peppermint shrimps looks, but i guess I surely can since they sell almost any shrimp in here.

 Thanks Marco !
I had an Optima and works well, but it presents the problems youre talking about.

I heard good things about the Tetra luft pump, but I dont know if it is on the market or is descontinued.

That is the reason to get some opinions of other cheaper but strong air pumps to power a CC skimmer.

By the way Marco, can you get peppermint shrimps with your LFS?

Thanks !!

I would recommend a maxima from hagen, but they soon lowers their
efficiency because the wooden air difusers get clogged as they work,
making it harder to pump air and burning the diafragm.
