thank you both. its kinda weird- there really seems to not be a good solution for this. I tried the Voltaic app- it uncompressed files by a factor of 7 (or so). i had seen that macrumor as well- weird that this stuff was happening back at the beginning of 2007 with very little progress since then.
i am going to punt, hand the camera over to someone that can burn me a dvd, and then bring it back to the mac and iMovie08. Thank you.
