Subject: Re: [HD] Content Management Systems Free Workshop

"Joomla is the only open source (read "free") content management system
(CMS) that's out there, right?

Well, in a very short word, "no". There are over 100 free CMS systems out
there that are being used by a variety of businesses - both small and large
to manage both web and internal content. Some are best used for document
management, some for websites, some for social websites, some for creatives,
some for those who...well, you get the picture.

Come for a fun, two-hour overview of what the various open source CMS
systems have to offer you - both personally, but especially as a business
owner. We'll discuss the basic attributes of a good CMS; how they differ
from traditional web development platforms and tools; and discuss briefly
their pros and cons. Then we will begin exploring the specific CMS' under
discussion for the workshop: Joomla, Drupal, ModX, EZPublish, Liferay and
Typo3. We will look at their user interfaces from an
administrative/development standpoint and look at some sites based on them.
We wil also discuss their support options, such as forums and/or
documentation. We'll also discuss the learning curves and suitability of the
various CMS'. Which one is the easiest to learn? Which is well-known as
having a learning curve that could make you weep? Who makes it easy? And who
is trying to call themselves a CMS - but still has a ways to go?

There are two workshops available, one on Wednesday, November 19th and one
on Wednesday, December 3. They will begin at 6:00 pm and go to 8:00 pm both
evenings. Boith workshops will be held at the St. Edwards Professional
Center at 9420 Research Blvd, Echelon III, Suite 200 here in Austin. A
detailed map can be found on the registration page at Eventbrite.
