Hi, I am a member of a usability research team at UT's School of
Information. We are looking to put together a "mobile usability lab,"
namely a notebook machine with usability software. We currently have
access to a lab with Morae, but we're disappointed with the quality of
the capture, and like to see what else is out there.

Here's what we would like out of a package:
*input tracking (mouse and keyboard)
*Participant recording through an integrated web cam
*relatively good capture quality. (better than this version of Morae,
anyway.)
*an open or at least portable data format would be nice, too.

The reasons we would like to use a notebook machine are varied. A
major one is having the test system on a portable machine would allow
us to do our tests at participant offices or do sessions at
conferences. (Our test group is academic.) A lamer reason is that we
currently don't have lab space, so storage presents an issue.

The professor is agnostic about Windows or OS X, but would like to
keep it around $3000 including the cost of the machine.

Is there any software people like out there? Is Morae still the gold
standard? Are we totally nuts? I look forward to hearing what you have
to say.

Thanks,
-Chris
