I believe both suppositions are valid:

Since nobody knows what will be cutting edge year from now, the topic
must be one which is already laid as an essential theme, method or
technology of web communications.  It would be unwise to try to divine
the direction of the wind!

And at least 66% of the SXSW 2010 audience will still find much value
in (if not discovery of) exploring what was hot (105 degrees hot) in
the Summer of '09.
