I get the parental concern. The best way to prevent them from "exposing" tto
much personal info is to be involved in the site. Not just monitor it but to
be a part of it. That can demonstrate good collaborative habits and you'll
dozens of teachable moments.

This is not a technology issue and it will not be solved by technology.
But...if you really need technmology to answer this then you can admin the
blog and allow them only author rights and you can approve everything that
they publish.
