Hi Eric, Generally 7-10 characters work well for Coupon codes. it does depend though, if you have POS (point-of-sale) system that you need to integrate into and how that POS works.
You want to be able to have the ability to validity dates on the code If its customer specific code that you want to send out (REALLY great ability to have), then that administrative ability to target by name/role/position/location.. so you can promote in that way. QR Friendly: this is a good idea to add in now you should think about the goals that you have for coupons? Where are you advertising: online only or paper too? If so will you need to be barcode friendly? If so the same rules for barcode will prevail as the barcode reader you use.
