Actually, Fantastic Universe published the pastiches as deCamp wrote them:
Oct. 1955: "Hawks over Shem" by Howard & de Camp
Dec. 1955: "Conan, Man of Destiny" by Howard and de Camp
April 1956: "The Blood-Stained God" by Howard & de Camp
Dec. 1956: "Gods of the North" by Howard

The first deCamp pastiche was FANTASY FICTION MAGAZINE, March 1953's
version of "The Black Stranger"/"Treasure of Tranicos" if I'm not mistaken.

So if they were asking Moorcock for Conan at the time they were folding
they had an audience from the Howard/de Camp stuff that had already run.
