Okay, a point---but doesn’t taking something like that into account constitute racism?  I mean if both ethnicity and religious beliefs are involved, to me that seems like racial discrimination.

I would say that it is more of a cultural discrimination with race as a factor.  It seems to me more like profiling based on history, and country of origin.  BTW I dont think that we are supposed to be using html mail on this list.  i.e. fancy fonts and colors.:)  Im not sure that all cultural discrimination is bad, if it is used perhaps somewhat loosely and carefully.  If there was a culture that used human sacrifice in its rituals, or thought killing people from your culture was good, why not discriminate a bit when dealing with them?  (I am not referring to the japanese here:))  I believe that it is not whether or not it was discrimination with the japanese, as it seems to me it obviously was,  it is whether or not it was justified.  Im not sure that it was racism as we have come to know it however,  it seems to me that it was a very special circumstance and required drastic measures to ensure our safety.  It was wartime in the worst way.  Im not saying that the japanese were fairly treated, I dont know enough about it  but from what I know it may have been justified from their potential religious associations with the emperor and all...
