<< Well..it WAS that evil right wing reactionary Earl Warren, then Gov of
California who was one of the men behind the internment. It's just a shame
they couldn't keep that evil conservative off the Supreme Court, along with
that evil racist Hugo Black, who was (unlike REH) a member of the KKK in the
 1920's........
WAIT! What's that you say, both men turned out later to be liberal justices
who were strong supporters of civil rights and freedoms?????!!!!!!
Damn, maybe people are more complex than we thought!!!!!!
 Who'd a thunk it??????

Earl Warren, the Republican governor of California and Republican
Vice-Presidential nominee in 1948. I thought he later denounced his actions
in imprisoning Japanese-Americans. He ruled in favor of Civil Rights in a
number of important cases in the 1950s. Hugo Black likewise turned on the
Klan and ruled against racial segregation and for civil rights in other
matters. These guys reversed themselves and took a courageous stand DESPITE
what the rest of society drummed into them. They took a stand DESPITE the
vilification still heaped on them for it to this day. I still hear
conservatives speaking disparagingly of the Warren Court.
We can admit that Warren and Black were racists early in their life and
still admire their later actions just like we can admit Howard's racism and
still admire his writings and other things about him.
