Ok, I missed the line saying the box had 1GB of ram, is highmem turned on in
2.4.x? I'd like you to try a few things
2.4.7-ac3 configured with highmem turned off.
2.4.14 configured with highmem off and on
Mounted without tails, 2.4.x should be much faster than 2.2.x in just about
every benchmark. Exactly which 2.2 kernel are you testing? The highmem
bounce buffer copies might be hurting you in 2.4.
If highmem does make a diference, I'll check with Jens to see if the nstor
driver supports his highmem i/o fixes.
