My Xft paper for the XFree86 technical conference documents the public 
functions; I need to get it converted to SGML and included in the release.

If you've got TrueType fonts, you can already pretend to be 10646 -- just 
make sure you always ask for a 10646 encoding and things will work just 
fine.  The only thing that doesn't work is access to all of the core 
fonts, you'll only get the ones with a 10646 encoding.
