Likewise-the guys on the other side of 'the wall' from me maintain a VHF network using a pair of corner reflectors back-to-back fed from a power splitter to cover the toll road. Again no need to cover more than a few miles off the road, but need end-to-end. As long as construction of the antenna is solid and stable, it shouldn't be a problem.
