Gee, they could have had a Genave...

Back in the late 70's both Gatesville, N5DDR/R, and Lampasas, W5GFR/R
bought Spectrum 2M repeaters. Gatesville had a phone patch, and
Lampasas was stand alone. Both used single antenna, and WP641
duplexers. Lampasas is dead. Gatesville is still running without patch.

Seems like there was a heat sink problem on DC regulator driver
transistor, and some of the pretty pushbutton switches became
un-reliable. Also periodic (once a year or so) frequency adj was
needed. I do not recall any spurious transmit trouble or interference
complaints. Seems there was nothing really outstanding or really
bad - just that in 1980 they were pretty inovative. At that time
MastrII was new, (ever give up on a 40W UHF IPA?)
Mastr Pro was still current (FMR) RCA still had a CF1000,
Moto had the Micor, and Aerotron was in the
running. Also Regency had a 100 Watt box. We won't
get into the E. F. Johnson line at that time (527) although
the FleetCom II was a pretty nice box.

BTW - Gatesville is still running, and Lampasas will be
resurrected when time permits. It also seems like the
146.97 folks in Waco had a HamTronics that was a real
problem child and spurious, and don't know what became
of the station. Seems like they never got the problems
solved. My 2 cents,

Happy Thanksgiving,
