I don't have intimite uhf micor experience however it sounds like the exciter is making some noise if your walky can hear it, I do know on the mastr family if you change the length of the jumper to the pa you will have to retune the last 2 caps as it makes just enought to get the pa going and cable length can mess you up when you move a good working mobile into a station frame. On vhf micor there is a connector (actually it is good to clean them all) where the pa deck meets the phase detector/final power adjustment board that once in awhile needs to removed and the tarnish cleaned from the pins to restore smooth operation. Many times a micor will have those wipers that need to be cleaned with a rubber eraser tip, maybe the cleaning crew had the vacuum running in that corner and left some swarf in the chassis?
