I've never seen an MVP T/R relay fail. They are sealed in a metal can. I'd sooner think that the interconnecting cable between the T/R relay and RX input may have become questionable. The connections are simple RCA plugs/jacks and may have become corroded over time. Could also be the RCA connector going to the I.F stage.
Don't rule out a nearby transmitter desensing the MVP.
