Just remembered an event that happened around 1991 or so. Hoeslcher Brothers Farms operated a VHF radio system on 152.465, simplex with sub audible tone. They used this channel to coordinate farm activities in the community of Westphalia, about 15 miles East of Temple, Texas.
Life was good.
Then, Centralink Paging started 152.480 operations at the First National
Bank Building in Temple.
Seemed like the FCC rules allowed 152.480 as long as you were 10 miles from
a neighboring base station 15 kc separated. The commission did not
consider the mobile radio service area. I am going by memory and may have
drifted in frequency a little over the years, but this seems correct.
Centralink paid for frequency coordination and re-channeling the Hoelscher
Brothers radios.
