Dave (N1IB) asked about 1-5/8" heliax... yep, I have a bunch of it. It's not cheap to ship. Six pieces (no room for mistakes! I would suggest starting with 8 hunks) = 12" x 12" x 62" =UPS oversize... the quote from Manassas, VA to Alpharetta, GA follows.. assuming I drop it off at the shipping point. This doesn't count packaging... probably another 5 to 10 bucks as I don't ship things for a living and will have to go out and purchase supplies.

I am willing to share ... but like I said... not cheap to ship. Dave is the lucky dog! As I will be heading for Georgia any day now as my Father-in-law is about to pass from cancer. So his line will be delivered for free, assuming he is willing to drive up from Atlanta the Rossville area. My suggestion would be to look around all the tower companies in your area.It is standard practice for them to cut the salvage line into pieces that will fit into the bed of a pickup, (just under 6 foot long) then toss it into the dumpster when they arrive back at the yard. Most of them will have tag ends left on a spool that is not long enough to be useful to them, but a godsend for most hams. As one guy down in Charlottesville put it he "can't eat the stuff, and it's just taking up space on the yard. If you want it for cheap, drive on down".
I routinely pick up substantial lengths for around 3 to 4 bucks a foot, new off the spool. Be prepared to take the wooden spool as well, because they usually break them down and burn them just to get rid of them. It usually costs more to ship them back than the deposit... the spool ends make pretty fair picnic tables if you have a big yard. These spools are very large and heavy! Bring friends with strong backs and a large flat-bed trailer. As well as plenty of tie-downs.
Just be aware that free line usually comes with a few hidden "extras"... primarily shipping, and effort on my part. My plate is pretty full right now... but I will make a effort to help if I can. Not to mention that the wife will be glad to see it go! A little effort and a phone book can yield good results! Not trying to turn anybody off.. just know that a couple bucks of gas, and a cold one after you load up can do wonders.
Sorry to waste bandwidth...
BTW, there is a small blurb on my web page about the construction of the heliax duplexer... next I want to try the helical project that Sam details!

Would that apply to teveryone or just Dave ? I's like to get some of it too.
Seems like you could stuff the five foot pieces into a box and UPS it. After
Dave get's his I'd like to get some too.
