I'll assume because of so much power "floating around", it would be
hard to be sure what is getting into the measuring receiver?

I understand the reasoning for the pad, but if in actual use (on the
RX cavities) that receiver is NOT really close to 50 Ohm, isn't it
better to tune everything up with the actual load (RX front end)?
