HAL Communications is around (http://www.halcomm.com) but most of their
business is not ham related. Their phone number is 217-367-7373. Ask to talk
with Mark Prather (WB9HFK) about ID-1A info. It is not on their website but
they (Mark in particular) have been very helpful to me in providing info
about some of their older gear.
As far as the ID-1A goes, if you look at the diode matrix it's fairly
simple to understand. It's been a lot of years since I programmed one but I
think that the diodes on one side are for "dits" and the other is for
"dahs". No diode is a space and a diode to both sides is a stop code. The
easiest way I found was to lay out the letters/numbers on a sheet of graph
paper and draw the morse sequence out. Then just plop the diodes in the
right sequence. Oh, always start out with a space (no diode) in the first
position. If your ID-1A is presently programmed with a known callsign then
graph it and see if this scheme makes sense.
Seems like there are three pots on the board. One is for tone frequency,
one for code speed, one for level. There may more but I don't remember. Been
a long time.
