I have to agree with the suggestion that any extra grounding be
tied into the main ground system - National Electric Code rules I
believe.
I ran into that when installing Electro Magnetic Pulse protection
circuitry from a purely required regulation sense. The part I had
difficulty with was the seemingly (meaningless to me) requirement of
the NEC. At the time - 12? years ago? - I wanted to believe it
downgraded the protectivness of the EMP additions I was adding to
meet the NEC rules.
Just a thought here.
It was a to-be-discussed issue with a state electrical inspector ...
but the opportunity to do so never happened.

This may not be practical in some residential installations.
