The cheapest way I have found to build repeater projects - hands down
- is old Motorola Pulsar car phones. You can usually get them for
free or next to it - maybe a couple bucks at a swap meet.

The circuitry in these is Micor vintage [mid 70's to mid 80's] so it
is reliable, yet easy to understand. The transmitters are continuous
duty [remember - it's a telephone]. And they are synthesized so you
don't even have to buy any crystals [I said this was a CHEAP project]

The beauty of the Pulsar synthesizer is that there is no computer, no
PROM, no RSS, just a diode matrix to set up - and it is all documented
in the manual [which is a MUST have before starting the project]

By coincidence - there is a Pulsar manual listed on ebay right now.
Looking at the posted picture of the manual you will see that it shows
the later style Pulsar drawer unit - the one that is the best for
repeater projects.
