I have been running a TE Systems paging amp on my 147.16 machine for the
last 8 months and so far so good, no problems. Because of the influence of
a prior employer I did add two fans right on top of the heat sink though.
Bob Bell believed you could never have to many fans on a radio. He had 7
fans on an old Canadian Marconi UHF 7 watt repeater. The only thing that
kept it from getting to "airborne" in wind gusts was the AC cord, when it
got to high it would unplug itself and settle back to the ground! It was a
joke around Bell Communications in Fort Worthless, Texas, guess you had to
be there.....

TE has a mixed bag opinion or love-hate
reputation among the VHF/UHF SSB/DX crowd
here in NorCal. .

They/he makes great stuff, but when it has
a problem, look out. They have ads in some
of the Amateur Mags, but no web site I've
ever seen. He will send you a catalog if you
ask by phone. The yellow catalog sheets are
pretty good for what they are.

Ham radio is not his bread and butter, more
the commercial side so he has limited time to
deal with Amateurs. His limited time can be
an issue if you're having a problem.

Every TE amp I have is first rate construction
and operation. I like them, I buy them when
and where possible, but I have one or two friends
who have had problems with their really large
>350 watt amps. Getting them back from service
/repair required threats of driving down to
SoCal after weeks of unanswered phone calls.

I've never had one of the 15 plus TE amps I
own fail. They really do honk out a nice signal
and they are well designed.
