Brian,

The 100 watt MTR2000 comes in two ranges, 132-154 MHz and 150-174 MHz.
You have to specify which range you want when you place your order,
because you cannot program them out of band. The MTR2000 handles all
intercommunication between modules in digital format, and the embedded
code in the PA module tells the exciter module what range it will
handle. Since you can't buy a Depot manual for the VHF station, you
have no schematics to guide you even if you could open up the sealed
modules. High-tier radios like the MTR2000 are not intended to be
repaired by users or dealers. Motorola expects you to have a stock of
FRUs (Field Replaceable Units) on hand to exchange, and you send the bad
unit back to the Elgin service center for repair.

The receiver, exciter, station control module, and the 30 or 40 watt
stations will program over the full 132-174 MHz band. If you find
someone with a 100 watt VHF MTR2000 station selling for a very
attractive price, you should be careful to determine that the PA is in
the range you want. Otherwise, you will plunking down some $1200 or so
for a PA that is in the desired range.

Some MTR2000 stations have an external preselector that looks a lot like
the Micor resonator block, and the receivers in such stations are
specified for either the 132-154 MHz band or the 150-174 MHz band.
