Hi Russ:
I have been using a DB-228 for over three years on
147.72/147.81.
I agree with everyones comments, i.e. it is a very formidable
antenna.
It is worth the extra money and you will be
satisfied.
The DB-228 is actually two DB 224 with an additional phasing
harness. Therefore the total length is over 40 feet
long.
It requires a bit more expertise to haul up the tower and a
four man crew would be advisable.
I did feel that the mounting braket and hardware supplied by
DB was under designed.
I had the tower manufacturer (Allied Tower) fabricate four
brackets for the DB 228. The antenna is mounted at 500 feet and has been
through two hurricanes.
