Rod,

I have an R1225 on solar power power right now, with two MTR2000's  in
the planning stages.  Obviously, a continuously-operating fan will run
down the batteries, so you should install a thermal switch on one of the
heatsink fins.  Digi-Key has some that work well, and I picked one that
closes at 120 degrees.  Use heatsink compound to ensure good heat
transfer between the fin and the switch.  Don't bother with complicated
electronic controls- a simple thermoswitch is the answer.
