I read a very interesting column on the concept of free speech
recently. It went something like this....You assume that just because you
can freely speak that you are not bound by the consequences of such action(
or more specifically that there should not be any just because you have the
right to speak) , and that we need to tolerate your opinion.. such is not
the case....Consequences may easily include ridicule as well as argument
and even potentially violence. Yes violence is even justified if your free
speech effort included provocation to that end... Claim free speech and
call someone a jerk in a bar and see what happens... Walk up to a police
officer and say "I am going to kill you " or yell "BOMB" in an airport and
see how free your speech is.... I wonder how much "free speech" you allow
your employees to exercise...or how much you use at a local council meeting
while you are asking the city to spend money with you... get real.....
Free speech thus is a transmitting and receiving process and needs
to be tempered as such. I/we have just as much right to tell you to stuff
it as you do to say something. Free speech must be tempered with logic in
where is and is not the right place to exercise it... The problem is that
most people preaching about free speech are the last ones who should be
exercising it....It generally becomes the last defense against self induced
ridicule from exercising said free speech at THE WRONG TIME and PLACE.
When you use free speech to be argumentative, you no longer will
be carrying a constitutional and academic torch.. It will be viewed for
what it is... argumentative..
Just because you have the right to say something does not make us
obligated to listen... The delete key is my option here as of late, but as
a list owner, I have banned folks and censored folks (Russ included) for
disrupting the harmony of that group, as these forums are not a public
right of gathering place.. This is not the public street corner... Free
speech can be limited as the owner of the list sees fit based on his desire
to maintain balance and harmony among the users of said list.
Your freedom to post here is limited by the list owners desire to
allow it... It is a not democracy.
The repeater builder list is about building repeaters, not buying
them .. WHY do you and Russ even subscribe??? Free advertising???? What????
You completely disagree with the entire concept of the forum... then GO
AWAY.... unless you just like to niggle and argue.... in which case you get
what you deserve....
I am commercially in the business too, I do not use these forums
to promote my company.... WHY DO YOU ????????????? Do you think you are
that much smarter that the rest of US ???? I can afford to buy any repeater
I want too as well.. But what sense is that unless you happen to like
reading your callsign in a repeater directory for an ego trip or
something....Building is about building.. craftsmanship...
pride...education, and god forbid maybe even just ....... the fun of it....
I think maybe you should just find another choir to preach to....
