I was thinking along the lines of adding an air trap, and actually 
pulling a few inches of vacuum, so that a leak would suck air rather than drip.
A drop in vac could even start a small pump to bail the air out of the system.

Not before checking reactivity to the plastics.
I'd rather stick with plain water, it's a known quantity.
