I think the real issue is that the local stores do not carry even simple parts anymore like resistors and solder 9 pin DB connectors. I know at least in this area where I have 3 RS's within a 30 minute drive only one
has the solder DB connectors and the other 2 do not even have them usually. At one time another store just carried crimp DB connectors, never used them and was surprised that they would carry only them.

Mail order is fine but it does not help much after work if you want to finish a project or on a weekend for the controller you just have got to get wired up and are missing the correct coaxal power plug. On-Line is OK too but with the likes of Mouser and Digi-Key that have everything under the sun between the two of them RS mail order is just not that special since you can get everything they have and much more from the others. Where RS really did their part was heling the hobbyist with the common simple things that we needed on a moments notice.

Subject: Re: [Repeater-Builder] Radio Shack electronic parts availability

Mathew,
I just got off the telephone with a Radio Shack Rep in Dallas.  Rep said they are still in the commercial component business.  She did mention a few years ago they  dropped a kit building product but RS is still selling industrial components and going strong.  She suggested viewing their web site www.radioshack.com. I just did and they still have the commercial parts section. Its in the upper right hand corner of their website front page.  Being components are difficult to find as we all know.  So if you ask questions they just might have it. I certanily would not exclude them from the rolladex file card holder just yet.  I have no involvement or interest in Radio Shack but there is a lot of people like me who still occasionally need parts. RS commercial just may have it.
