Motorola usually adjusts their squelch rather tight,
somewhere neare a 12-20dB quieting signal might be
needed to open it. While this may be great for
commercial setups, we hams usually want it right on
the hairy edge, but not so loose that it chatters. If
you can, adjust it at the repeater site when it's all
hooked up. Un-PL the receiver (by pressing the MON
button once, if that works in your setup) and adjust
it so it's just closed, then maybe a hair tighter. In
the good old days, the carrier squelch might have been
left open if the radio had PL decode, but not
necessarily so in today's noise-filled world.
Depending on how you've got the GM300 set up, the rear
COS pin may or may not include PL/DPL as a qualifier.
I recall on some radios that it's strictly a carrier
indication and might respond to any signal, with or
without PL/DPL.
