40 is a little high, some modems choke and distort on line current
over 35 mils.  I target 25 to 30 mills.

True. This is also covered.

The 1200 baud Hayes will do this, the 2400 I've never tested, the 56 will
not (the firmware space was needed for the 56kb encoder/decoder programming)

I'd love to find a PDF of the 1200 Hayes morse commands that I could
upload and link from the web page.
