If you look around the ham radio web sites, there are many articles on 
making
6 m duplexersw out of copper or aluminum pipe.  Less expensive than having
to biuy a factory-made one.

I did try large heliax but it was not really a great success
as you say with just 500 split it can be difficult, but the frequencies are
allocated by our regulator here in the UK
I have every thing else working fine, tx/rx controller just need
a duplexer...
