One other sidebar to the Fan Timer Topic.

In days of old, when knights were bold... there
was a need to keep some radios on for x-amount of
time after the ignition/motor was disabled.

I can remember having to install radio power control
timers in vehicles and still have two NOS (new old
stock) Cal-Sat Systems 4 min timers here in front of
me. Working from a -23 dB disco era memory... I believe
the radio power off timer was installed just to keep
the older radios from running the vehicle batteries
down. I seem to remember the dead battery event as a
semi serious (yet very funny) issue with police/fire
folks taking their official vehicles home for the
weekend/time off.

Now I use the radios integrated power off timer to
allow AVL/APRS position reports for a short time after
the vehicle stops. I've got a new mini repeater made
from a few Kenwood Mobiles that uses the same feature.

Aside from building your own 555 timer control circuit,
you could probably hunt around for surplus radio power
off timers to use for the same application.

cheers,
