I really don't care to argue in favor of one method vs 
another, but I will say I've redone easily over 200 
Mitrek Channel elements with rocks from Bomar and ICM.  

I've never had a problem with any of the rocks from 
both mfgrs.  

Typical for a self - re-rocked channel element... the 
crystal will drift a small amount when first put into 
service (excited).  In the relative world it settles 
down after an hour, two or three. I always reset F_center 
a few hours later when time and the site location permit. 
If I have the luxury of time or site access, I'll reset 
the channel element after a day or two of continued 
operation (excitation). 

Frequency checks after a few weeks of operation might 
show the Fc to have settled in/at a location withing a 
few hundred hertz of the original F_set.

After two or three months, frequency drift is very 
minimal.  Thermal drift after the initial operation 
time is also very minimal. 

In the early days, I had ICM do the full number for us. 
The performance results are similar, it's my opinion ICM or 
Bomar simply take the initial operation drift as described 
above and remove it from the customers view during their 
age or initial excitation process.  The mentioned in 
addition to some temp tracking and circuit changes to the 
channel element where required. 

All said and done, I've not had a problem with temp drift 
in re-rocked channel elements after the practical settle 
time.  Once set F_center pretty must stays put over the 
normal expected operating range.

pss: The frequency drift described by/in the initial post 
is not normal, something is/was done wrong.
