I don't recall any input on the accessory jack for
that function. Sometimes you can program a second mode
without PL and change to that, but I don't think the
radio will let you change modes while it's
transmitting, nor is there an input for that function
either.

Some MaxTracs have this feature, but it's not
implemented cleanly. When the PL is disabled, it
throws quite a glitch out to the VCO.

The most reliable method is to inject your own PL into
the audio stream, rather than rely on the radio to do
it. Of course, this is a lot more difficult on a
Spectra than it is on something like a MaxTrac or a
crystal-controlled (non-synthesized) radio. Spectras
are just less versatile in this area. You know how it
is: if commercial users don't need it, Motorola makes
no provisions for it in their equipment.
